A Message From the Vice President

HART’s very pro-active approach to stopping the never-ending, high surplus pet populations and high euthanasia rates in the pounds is two-fold:

1). Provide aggressive spay and neuter programs to alleviate over-reproduction.

HART is currently distributing spay and neuter funds for local strays and owned pets. Please email your requests to coldnoses@slohart.org

2). Provide shelter and care until permanent homes are found for those who are born, and need our help.

See a virtual tour of our great cat shelter… click picture above. Foster homes are also paramount to our program.

To further our mission in finding good permanent homes for our rescued animals, HART has purchased a used linen truck to use as an Adopt-A-Pet mobile to be customized as a great outlet to find more homes! Please click here for more info and a picture!

Our Mission

Our mission is to eliminate the surplus animals from being born.
Through this relentless pursuit, we will reach the point of balance between supply and demand.  In return, animals will become more valuable and therefore, hopefully, treated with respect.

Our goal is "Pound Prevention" with homes for all.
Spaying and neutering is paramount; with fewer animals in the pounds, fewer must die.
BIRTH PREVENTION = POUND PREVENTION.

Our philosophy is ensuring quality of life to all living creatures, both feral and domestic.
By controlling the reproduction rate of neighborhood strays, we are relieving some of the burden from the county pound, consequently saving money for the local governments and taxpayers.  By "cleaning up" the local neighborhoods, HART also helps prevent tom-fighting, spraying and the spread of diseases from the feral and stray animals to family pets.  Pet overpopulation is a huge cost to the taxpayers, to the lives of the animals, and to the hearts of the people who care.

HART is a non-profit, tax exempt, all volunteer humane service organization dedicated to people and their pets as well as the homeless and stray animals who need our help.  No salaries are paid.  We are incorporated under the auspices of the Secretary of State of California.  HART is fully tax-exempt under the U.S. Treasury Department section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code.  Our tax identification number is 77-0018508.
