The "Eyes" have it!
McNabb has been the HART shelter mascot for years and even graces the cover of our cookbook. But, last year was a rough one for him. He was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor behind his eye and it was unclear if we were going to be able to save him, let alone his eye. We put a plea out for donations to cover his surgery and did raise some funds but not enough to cover the entire cost of the surgery. We were facing some tough decisions.
In December two couples from Wasco, CA with vacation homes in Cambria came into the shelter to donate food and met McNabb. They were instantly smitten! As luck would have it, one of the visitors is a veterinarian in Wasco. The planning began and the wheels were set in motion to transport McNabb to Wasco Veterinary Hospital for his surgery.
Our volunteer Ann drove him to Wasco and Dr. Tom Edick performed the surgery to remove his eye. After a few days recovery, he came back to us with a permanent "wink". We considered a black eye patch but he would have none of that!
The best Christmas present off all was that the entire surgery, etc. was donated by Dr. Edick and Wasco Veterinary Hospital Thanks to Dr. Edick, Ann and our other volunteers who made this possible!
