What we do
HART is a hands-on volunteer organization working to make a difference in our community of San Luis Obispo County by rescuing abandoned animals, trapping and neutering stray and feral cats, and fostering sick and needy animals until we can find the best matched homes for them. Our unique cage-fee shelter allows cats to roam freely and socialize with each other. We are a no-kill shelter.
In order to expand our adoption reach, HART participates in Adopt-A-Pet events throughout the county of San Luis Obispo and we have purchased and retrofitted an Adopt-A-Pet Mobile that will allow us to take our cats out of the shelter and into the surrounding communities for adoption. This van can also be used as an emergency evacuation van for HART and will allow us to rescue small animals in a disaster situation. "Click here for more information".
HART works with local schools and other organizations to promote Humane Education including responsible pet care and humane treatment of animals.
Our Mission
HART is a dedicated group of volunteers whose mission is to rescue abandoned domestic cats on the North Coast of San Luis Obispo County and place them in permanent homes through our adoption center and participation in Adopt-A-Pet events throughout the County. To further the goal of "Pound-Prevention" Hart participates in countywide spay/neuter programs including TNR (trap/neuter/return) for feral cats.
